Scott Simon, the pianist for the rock ‘n’ roll group Sha Na Na died at the age of 75 after a long fight with serious cancer.
He was part of the group for 52 years and was very famous for his best performances and songs.
Simon and Sha Na Na were also in the 1978 movie Grease.
Later he moved to Los Angeles and appeared in The Sha Na Na Show, a variety show with famous guests like Chuck Berry, James Brown and the Ramones.
Sha Na Na also toured with big names like John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.
Simon was born on December 9 and 1948 in Kansas City Missouri. He was talented in both sports and music playing in jug bands and starting a jazz group. At Columbia University he led a blues band called The Royal Pythons and got the nickname “Screamin Scott.”
In 1970 he joined Sha Na Na, a doo-wop group that had played at Woodstock as their keyboard player and later became one of the band’s managers.
While the band was known for covering old hits, Simon also wrote original songs and solo albums and showed his talent on records and TV.
